How to jailbreak iPhone or iPad on iOS 5.0.1
More than two months has passed since the famous jailbreak developer, Pod2g publicly announced his discovery of a bug which could provide a working, untethered jailbreak for devices on iOS 5.x. And now we finally have a functioning, untethered jailbreak solution at our disposal, thanks to Pod2g but also to Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team which were quick to implement the solution.
This jailbreak has the same files as the ones which were sent originally to Chronic Dev Team members by Pod2g. These files can be distributed either through Cydia, as a package named Corona for users already jailbroken, or with RedSn0w for users which have delayed the jailbreak, waiting for this untethered jailbreak. Please note that this release only works with 5.0.1 firmware, but a version compatible with iOS 5.0 should be available soon. All users are warmed not to upgrade their devices to the 5.0.2or 5.1 firmware version as this could prevent you from using the next jailbreak.
This jailbreak works for following devices: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad first generation. iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are not supported at this time.
If your device is already running on version 5.0.1 and you have jailbroken it with a tethered solution (Redsn0w, Ac1dSn0w or Sn0wbreeze) you can tap Cydia and download and install Corona package from Chronic Dev Team.
If you are running the official iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone or iPad you can user RedSn0w 0.9.10 beta 1 (Windows version or Mac version) to get your untethered jailbreak. To do so follow these simple steps:
1. Download the latest version of RedSn0w jailbreak tool version 0.9.10 b1.
2. Fire up RedSn0w, click on jailbreak and afterwards tick “Install Cydia”. Follow the instructions on your screen, which will get your device into the DFU (Device Firmware Update).
3. Be patient and wait until RedSN0w does its trick.
4. When the jailbreak is successfully finished, your device will reboot and you can enjoy your untethered jailbroken device running iOS 5.0.1.
Please note: if you need the carrier unlock you must use the “create custom firmware” option, as you need to preserve the older baseband version!
You can download RedSn0w for Windows here, or for Mac computers here.
