Tethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad [iOS 5.1.1]
Here is the tethered jailbreak for all A4 based iOS devices, we have been waiting for so long! We wrote earlier that the jailbreak is in the final phase and luckily for us and many other iPhone and iPad users, we now have a tethered jailbreak, courtesy of the iPhone Dev Team.
RedSn0w 0.9.11 beta4 is based on the previous jailbreak for 5.1. firmware and ads some new options like stitching the blobs and making custom firmware version. This is especially important as it allows users to upgrade without the baseband update. This is of critical importance for all unlockers: if you upgrade the baseband you could loose the carrier unlock, perhaps forever.
Unlock iPhone 4S 5.1.1 with Gevey Sim unlock!
It is now officially confirmed: iPhone 4S upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 can be unlocked with the help of the Gevey Sim interposer! If you have accidentally or on purpose upgraded your device to iOS 5.1.1 (released a couple of days ago, you can now unlock it for use on other networks. It will also work on brand new devices with already installed 5.1.1 firmware. This unlocking solution is perhaps the simplest so far: all you need to do is to insert your new Gevey Sim with your sim card into your iPhone and thats all! Your iPhone is on latest 5.1.1 firmware and carrier unlocked. You don’t even need to jailbreak first, although there are many positive sides to jailbreaking: free apps, tweaks, theme customizations and much more!
Apple will give you an iPhone 4S as a replacement for a faulty iPhone 4!
Due to fast change of production lines in Apple’s manufacturing plants, iPhone 4 became a device increasingly harder to find. This is probably the only reason Apple is pushing iPhone 4S as a replacement device for somewhat inferior iPhone 4 models. Earlier this year, White iPhone 4 devices have been replaced in a such manner, now it’s the same situation with iPhone 4 Black 16 GB and 32GB.
iPhone 4 / iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak, confirmed by Pod2G
Another great news for all iPhone jailbreak users and fans. Famous jailbreak dev Pod2G has confirmed that he is currently running his iPhone 4 (on iOS 5.1) in a untethered jailbreak mode. We have already written about other jailbreak experts successful jailbreaking of iOS 5.1. Namely the same jailbreaking feat was accomplished by the Dev Team, Chpwn and I0n1c, but only I0n1c (Stefan Esser) has confirmed that his jailbreak is untethered. Hovewer, I0n1c declined to release his exploit to the public so far. So we think it is superb that @pod2g has found a way for untethered jailbreaking.
iPhone 4 unlock with the new Gevey Ultra
People behind the Gevey unlock sim card have again provided a hardware based unlock solution for iPhone 4 on 04.11.08 and 04.12.01 baseband version. It will work on any iPhone 4 which runs on iOS 5.1. Previously all Gevey sim unlocks worked only for devices which are upgraded only to 5.0.1 firmware as 5.1 sim unlock wasn’t possible.
Jailbreak iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4 with RedSn0w for Mac [Guide]
Here are instructions on how to do a tethered jailbreak on your iPhone 4 running on latest iOS version 5.1.
If you follow this guide, you will upgrade the baseband version on your iPhone 4. This could be a big problem if you want later on to carrier unlock your iPhone 4. If you need a carrier unlock you should upgrade your device to firmware 5.1 only with a custom firmware which will prevent the baseband firmware from upgrading. Please note: this jailbreak is the tethered version only, so you’ll have to reboot with your Mac whenever you turn your device off, or reboot it for any reason. It is a slight inconvenience, yet if you really want a jailbreak, you will have to use this solution as it is the only possible one at the time being. Further, you should really save the SHSH blobs before you continue. You can find the instructions on how to do this in our blogs archives.
Siri now ported on iPhone 4, how to video available
Ever since Apple released Siri for the first time, many users and developers lounged to see Siri on other platforms. Apple was decidedly against this kind of development for their own reasons, but iOS developers were not completely satisfied with such approach. So after some hard work, a group of developers had finally succeeded in porting Siri voice assistant over to iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G.
Siri0us app which emulated Siri on iOS devices removed from Cydia app store
We have recently seen many interesting Siri based apps which have a great potential for revolutionizing iOS and mobile computing. One of them called Siri0us was released only a couple of days ago, but it seems that it wasn’t meant to last. Siri0us was about enabling Siri dictation on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, and while not as great as Siri itself it was an interesting addition especially as it helped with voice based Search and Note apps. Since it didn’t had access to official Siri servers, it had to relay completely on Nuance API. The problem was that Nuance didn’t authorize the use of their software for these purposes. And to avoid further confrontation and possible lawsuits, Eric Dean, the developer of Siri0us has decided to pull out this app from Cydia altogether.
iPhone 4 gets on fire during a flight
A passengers iPhone 4 started glowing and smoking during a airplane flight in Australian. According to a press release made by the regional airline, the iPhone started emitting smoke after the plane landed. The smoke was quite dense and it was caused by a red glow inside the device. A crew member immediately intervened and extinguished the fire before any harm happened to passengers. Luckily no one was injured during this incident, and no serious damage to the airplane has occurred. The device was iPhone 4, which means it wasn’t the latest Apple’s model iPhone 4S. The device itself has been taken to federal Transport Safety Bureau for further investigation.
Apple porting Siri voice assistant to iPhone 4?
We have heard recently some rumors and reports about Apple’s intentions to add Siri to iPhone 4. Since Apple is recently busilly working on iOS 5.0.1 to solve battery life issues they apparently also want to include in this upgrade Siri to become comaptible with iPhone 4. A source close to Cupertino Company revealed that Apple’s engineers are testing Siri in their other iPhone models. Model which will most probably receive Siri upgrade will be iPhone 4 which has enough hardware capacities for supporting Siri. But we wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that Apple is also testing other iPhone models. Could this mean that Apple is working on another iOS upgrade?
