Amazon working on new smartphone

Amazon smartphone

According to the latest rumors in smartphone industry, Jeff Bezos and his team of designers and engineers are apparently working on a smartphone device of their own. Apart from releasing an Android tablet, the Kindle Fire, Amazon wants to further tap into the mobile computing market by building their own smartphone. This device is built with assistance from Foxconn, and should become an affordable alternative to Apple’s iPhone.

It wont feature the best hardware around but instead, its main selling point should be its affordable price and the large amount of content which is available from Amazon’s online store. The strategy for the device strongly reminds on Amazon’s strategy with the Kindle Fire tablet which was recently launched. The cost of the device is expected to be around $160. The device will feature a NFC (near field communication) technology which will be fully compatible with Amazon payment systems.

Apple wont be quite happy with this attempt as can be seen from their legal actions against Amazon using the term app store and the concept of the Kindle Fire tablet itself. Cupertino company will oppose any such developments with any necessary mean, as was seen recently in their battle against Samsung in EU and Australian courts.
