Siri voice assistant ported to iPhone 3GS
One of the best devices in the world today, if not the best handheld device today is certainly Apple’s latest iPhone model, the mighty iPhone 4S. This smartphone besides having a plethora other great features and capabilities uses something not available before on any other device or platform. Smart voice assistant Siri is perhaps the best upgrade Apple has offered ever on their devices. Because of this, many iOS users have been wondering whether it would be possible to use Siri on their older devices like iPhone 4 or even iPhone 3GS, which are fully compatible with iOS 5.0 as it is required for Siri to work. The biggest success in this line of hacking is being now revealed by famous developers Chpwn and Smith Troughton.
Surprisingly it seems that they have succeeded in installing Siri onto iPhone 3GS! According to what they presented, it seems that Siri works without any problem on the older hardware of iPhone 3GS. As you probably know iPhone 3GS is the oldest iPhone capable of running on iOS 5.0. You can see the demo of Siri working on this iPhone 3GS bellow.
We think this is really a wonderful possibility. According to what we saw in this video above, Siri works without slowing down or any visible problem. Still, the process of installing Siri on iPhone 3GS is not yet available freely, and the real reasons for this have being explained in the video. So it turns out that 3GS is really capable of running Siri’s AI, but why then did Apple choose to not allow it on their other iPhone models? The real reason should be probably sought in marketing department, as one of the most attractive features of iPhone 4S is probably Siri. And why should anyone want to get a new device if you can run Siri and iOS 5.0 on your current iPhone? But since jailbreak developers successfully installed Siri on a older device, the chance is Apple will allow this too, perhaps after Siri becomes available for jailbreakers first!
