Famous Apple designer creating a new kind of Thermostats
Perhaps on of the greatest features of Apple products are their exceptional designs. Now the same designers responsible for such great devices like iPod are spreading the Apple like design philosophy to other areas of industrial design. Tony Fadell which is also known as the “father of iPod” has announced the release of a new product : the Nest Learning Thermostat. His new thermostat will learn from your actions and choices and from inputs from the environment in order to create a highly customized temperature schedule for your home or office. O basically the designing goal Tony Fadell had in mind was to keep your place comfortable and cozy but keep it energy efficient as well.
In his own words, Tony Fadell says that it is unacceptable that a device which controls such amounts of energy spending isn’t keeping up with the latest technology. Roughly 10% of all energy spent in the US goes to heating and cooling. Nest Labs, of which Tony Fadell is a founder, aims is to improve this with a new kind of thermostats which will be made by combining high tech manufacturing with sleek design and smart software approach as seen with iPhones and iPads. The result is the next generation of thermostats which is above anything else seen in this market, the same way Apple products were better than their competitors. This product wont only provide better controls but it will also aims to educate consumers on energy savings and energy efficiency.
According to US government agencies annual consumption of energy per family home is $2000 and more than half of that amount goes to heating or cooling. While programmable thermostats were invented long time ago, more than 80% of consumers don’t really use it due to the complexity of the device. Nest Labs product tries to solve this issue with a system of sensors, cloud computing and algorithms. It will learn from your choices and preferred temperatures and react dynamically by controlling your home temperatures, making them comfortable but keep the energy expenditure down when you are away.
The device should become available to users during November and the expected price of this device is around $250.
