iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch launched!

RedSn0w 0.9.10 b1

And finally after many weeks of patient work by jailbreak developers and long waiting for iOS users, jailbreak which was created by Pod2g is now officially launched. This jailbreak works for iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G and 4G and for the original iPad tablet.

Only a couple of days ago, Pod2g has forwarded his jailbreak solution to both iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team. Both groups have immediately added the jailbreak to their respective tools which in case of iPhone Dev Team is RedSn0w and PwnageTool. Chronic Dev Team has made the jailbreak available in a Cydia package.

Cydia saves SHSH blobs for your iPhone iOS 5.0.1

Cydia logo

Your favorite jailbreak app and jailbreak app store, Cydia made and maintained by Saurik aka Jay Freeman has introduces some nice new features. Most important for iPhone and iPad users is probably the ability to save SHSH blobs. SHSH blobs are immensely important for jailbreakers, since SHSH blobs are needed if you ever want to restore your device to some previous IOS version. This is especially useful for jailbreaking as older iOS versions are usually much easier to jailbreak as the tool are already available. This is the reason Apple does not want to you to get back on previous versions of the firmware.

iFaith 1.4.1 launched by iH8Sn0w

iH8Sn0w has again released another upgrade for his iFaith tool. iFaith helps iPhone users to save their iOS 5 devices SHSH blobs, which makes it possible to downgrade the device, if the need ever arise. Usually, downgrading helps users with jailbreaking or unlocking their devices. This is the reason Apple is opposing iOS downgrading as much as possible, and why jailbreak developers and users love to have an option to downgrade the firmware.

Another step toward iPhone 4S jailbreak finished

The famous jailbreak developer, Pod2G has solved another pressing issue needed for the next, untethered jailbreak for latest iPhone 4S. The problem solved is related to caching issues with iPhone 4S.

As Pod2G said, A5 caching is not a problem anymore. He solved this problem by simply doing an untether within one thread and at the same time flushing the so called D cache and I cache in a row, at the crucial points during the process. It took a great numbers of attempts before he succeeded with this approach and this wasn’t easy at all. Another interesting piece of news is that the founder and owner of Cydia app store, Jay Freeman known better as @Saurik in jailbreak community has helped Pod2G in a important way. Saurik is definitely one of the best iOS developers today. No wonder he is the driving force in the world of iPhone and iPad jailbreaking!

iOS 5 jailbreak tweaks: CallTell

Jailbreak tweaks and apps are the essence of jailbreaking, and the biggest reason for any iPhone or iPad user to jailbreak their device. Some jailbreak tweaks are essential and practical, others are rather useless or of cosmetic nature only. CallTell is a tweak which falls somewhere between these two opposites, as it isn’t something you couldn’t live without but in some particular situations it could become very useful to you.

iFaith for downgrading your iOS version back to iOS 5.0

While we are still waiting for a promised untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 which could be released in the near future as @MuslceNerd and @Pod2g have recently announced, you should be aware of the fact that the jailbreak will work only for iOS 5.0. This means that if you have already upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 you’ll be out of lack as this jailbreak is iOS 5.0.compatible only.

With older iOS firmware versions, you could always go back to iOS 4.0, but after Apple released iOS 5.0, they have redesigned the process, and now if you have gone to iOS 5.0.1 you wont be able to simply restore back to iOS 5.0. But as always, if you cant beat them, you certainly can always jailbreak them!

Siri0us app which emulated Siri on iOS devices removed from Cydia app store

Siri0us removed from Cydia

We have recently seen many interesting Siri based apps which have a great potential for revolutionizing iOS and mobile computing. One of them called Siri0us was released only a couple of days ago, but it seems that it wasn’t meant to last. Siri0us was about enabling Siri dictation on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, and while not as great as Siri itself it was an interesting addition especially as it helped with voice based Search and Note apps. Since it didn’t had access to official Siri servers, it had to relay completely on Nuance API. The problem was that Nuance didn’t authorize the use of their software for these purposes. And to avoid further confrontation and possible lawsuits, Eric Dean, the developer of Siri0us has decided to pull out this app from Cydia altogether.
