Go ahead and upgrade your device through iTunes. Please take care: if you upgrade, you could loose the unlock option, possibly for a long time! To keep the unlock available for your device you will need to upgrade and protect the current baseband version at the same time. This is possible with some jailbreaking tools like PwnageTools, RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze.

Someone has just posted the video with a demonstration of the latest jailbreak for the latest iOS 5.1.1 firmware version. Finally this jailbreak is an untethered version. This time it represents basically an updated version of Absinthe jailbreak tool, version 2.0.

Absinthe 2.0 was tested on an iPhone 4 upgraded to 5.1.1 firmware. The jailbreak went smoothly and the recorded video is a proof that the jailbreak really works as promised.
