Apple blocks untethered Corona jailbreak with iOS 5.1 beta 3

Caution sign

We have waited for some long time for a stable and reliable untethered jailbreak for iOS devices runnig iOS 5. The jailbreak was finally developed and released only recently, at the end of the last year. It has enabled a excellent untethered jailbreak for all iOS devices, with exception of devices with A5 processors such as iPad 2 tablet and the latest iPhone 4S. Sadly it seems that it didn’t take too long for Apple’s engineers to patch the exploit which enables Corona jailbreak to work. A number of jailbreak developers have confirmed that the jailbreak isn’t working anymore with the beta 3 version of iOS 5.1. Keep in mind that the same exploit is being used in the latest version of RedSn0w jailbreak, so the same thing applies for this jailbreak too.

Corona untethered jailbreak, additional informations released

Corona jailbreak

Famous jailbreak developer Pod2g has added some new stuff about his Corona jailbreak on his own personal blog. If you are by some chance interested in how the mechanics of jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1 really functions, you might want to check out his blog.

In his own words: by using a “fuzzer”, he found out after some effort that an vulnerability exists in the sol called racoon config parsing code. If you wonder what racoon actually is: no its not the small hairy mammal, racoon is actually “ IPsec IKE daemon”. It is a part of iOS and it starts up when you begin a Ipsec connection. By the way: the name of this jailbreak - Corona is actually an anagram of racoon.

Redsn0w 0.9.10b3

You have probably already heard about the latest untethered jailbreak solution developed by Pod2g and released by Chronic Team and iPhone Dev Team. Many users have already taken the chance to jailbreak their favorite iOS device. While this is the best gift for any iPhone or iPad users, as any new software it included some minor or not so minor bugs hidden in its code. So it turns out, Redsn0w 0.9.10 beta 1 and Redsn0w 0.9.10 beta 2 had some bugs which needed to be promptly solved. And this is exactly what jailbreak developers have done with the latest release of Redsn0w 0.9.10 beta 3. The main problem was that a number of users have experienced problems with the so called “launchctl” issue appearing while using some Cydia tweaks and apps.
