Gevey sim card unlocks iOS 4.3.5 iPhones!

Gevey sim card interposer for unlocking iPhone 4

If you own an iPhone 4 and if you upgraded to iOS 4.3.5 which you shouldn’t have done by the way, you still have a chance to unlock your iPhone 4 for use on unofficial netwrok carrier. Your only remaining chance is the famous Gevey sim unlock solution. What is an Gevey Sim Card?

Well in layman’s therms this is a hack, not a software solution like PwnageTools or Sn0wBreeze. It looks like an ordinary sim card, and in fact you use it together with your sim card. It acts as a middle and uses so called middle man attack to unlock the baseband on your iPhone. So it can unlock 01.59.00, 02.10.04 03.10.01, 04.10.01 baseband versions. When you insert the Gevey Sim Card in your iPhone it must stay there. If you take it out your iPhone will again become locked!

This method isn’t without some issues itself, as previously it requested you to call an emergency number which is a questionable practice, even illegal in some corners of the world. But the latest version of Gevey sim card interposer didn’t need this call, so that is one big improvement.

On the other side it is known that Gevey Sim isn’t working for unlocking devices running beta versions of iOS 5 so you can use it only to unlock devices on 4.x.x firmware versions. Alternatively, you can use Gevey Sim card even for unlocking iPhone 4 on iOS 5 but only under one condition: if you preserve the baseband version of your iPhone during your upgrade. You can preserve your baseband if you jailbreak with PwnageTolls, but the jailbreak only works for Mac users. Sn0wBreeze which is kind of the same tool as PwnageTools but for Windows PC users, unfortunately isn’t updated yet to support iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 5.

For users which don’t need to preserve the baseband and needing only the current jailbreak, you can use RedSn0w for jailbreaking. For RedSn0w instructions check our complete guides and manuals. You can locate them in our blogs archives! Stay tuned for the latest iPhone and iPad jailbreak and unlocking news!
