And the disaster become even worse since the tsunami affected large nuclear energy plants. The same disaster had also influenced Apple’s business as some of the key factories for iPhone and ipad components are located in Japan.

iOS 5 introduces wireless firmware upgrade for iPhone

Apple has for long time planed to upgrade it’s iOS devices to be PC free. Finally it seems that they have made a significant step in this direction with the new iOS 5. According to some developers which have discovered this through the iOS 5 Software Development Kit (SDK), iOS 5 is meant to offer wireless iOS upgrades through 3G connections. But not everything is completely clear regarding this feature. It seems that not all kind of upgrades will be able through 3G networks. Most likely, smaller firmware upgrades will be available through 3G connections while mayor ones will probably need to be downloaded through your Wi-fi connection.

Apple closes the Gevey Sim hack

If you are an iPhone 4 user you are probably aware that most iPhone 4 devices with upgraded baseband version cant be unlocked with any software tool so far. The only solution for unlocking was the Gevey Sim card interposer. But not any more. As we wrote previously, Apple has just released the iOS 5 beta version 2 which according to iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd has patched the exploit used by Gevey. It isn’t Apple’s usual practice top patch such exploits while still in early beta phase of iOS release so it is quite possible that Apple was under strong pressure by official iPhone carriers.
