Apple stores to unlock GSM iPhones?

Apple Store

According to news coming from sources inside Apple Store, Apple stores will soon start offering complete unlock for fully priced GSM iPhone 4 handsets. This unlock should be different than the one offered previously on June 13, according to this source. Here is the reason behind this: if some Apple retail store runs out of available unlocked iPhones, they can use any other locked iPhone and simply unlock it after buyer pays the full price of it at the checkout. The price for the unlocked device us $650 for iPhone 4 16GB and $749 for 32GB iPhone 4 model.

GeoHot now in Facebook’s team?

Famous iPhone jailbeak developer GeoHot, real name George Hotz who is one of the most prominent iPhone jailbreak developers, also involved in jailbreaking variety of other devices including Sony Playstation gaming console, is now apparently been employed by Facebook. GeoHot made his fame when he first time developed a jailbreak for Apple’s iPhone back in 2007.

Another jailbreak developer nicknamed P0sixninja, himself a member of jailbreak group Chronic-Dev Team said in an interview that GeoHot has started working for Facebook. According to P0sixninja, this is the main reason GeoHot declined to help with the so far unuscesfull iPad 2 jailbreak. After the recent legal brawl followed by an uneasy legal agreement with Sony, it seems that GeoHot is changing his behaviour and has become more careful about his steps and hacking projects.

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 jailbreak for iOS 5

Famous jailbreak developer @iH8Sn0w has just updated Sn0wBreeze jailbreak to support jailbreaking of the latest iOS 5 beta version 2. This are good news to read we believe as it seems that jailbreak devs are working hard to keep up with the latest developments introduced by Apple with the iOS 5. Sn0wBreeze was updated and seeded as version 2.8 beta-3.

Here are some features of the upgraded jailbreak:

  1. Works with iOS 5 beta version 2.
  2. Not for average users - released for developers use.
  3. Will not activate the iPhone.
  4. Tethered jailbreak.

iOS 5 introduces wireless firmware upgrade for iPhone

Apple has for long time planed to upgrade it’s iOS devices to be PC free. Finally it seems that they have made a significant step in this direction with the new iOS 5. According to some developers which have discovered this through the iOS 5 Software Development Kit (SDK), iOS 5 is meant to offer wireless iOS upgrades through 3G connections. But not everything is completely clear regarding this feature. It seems that not all kind of upgrades will be able through 3G networks. Most likely, smaller firmware upgrades will be available through 3G connections while mayor ones will probably need to be downloaded through your Wi-fi connection.

Apple closes the Gevey Sim hack

If you are an iPhone 4 user you are probably aware that most iPhone 4 devices with upgraded baseband version cant be unlocked with any software tool so far. The only solution for unlocking was the Gevey Sim card interposer. But not any more. As we wrote previously, Apple has just released the iOS 5 beta version 2 which according to iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd has patched the exploit used by Gevey. It isn’t Apple’s usual practice top patch such exploits while still in early beta phase of iOS release so it is quite possible that Apple was under strong pressure by official iPhone carriers.

iOS 5 beta 2 for iPhone and iPad launched

Apple has now seeded the second testing version of the next iOS 5 firmware for their devices. At this moment it is available for developers only unless you are willing to find some other way to download it.
This is the first upgrade of iOS 5 after it was officially unveiled at Apples annually held WWDC some twenty days ago. As always, Apple’s engineers have ironed out some early discovered bugs but there is also something new: much sought after, wireless syncing finally becomes available as a part of iOS. Of course at this stage, this feature will be only available for users with Mac computers and only those with latest OS X versions. You will also have to upgrade your iTunes to 10.5 beta if you want to test out wireless syncing.

Demo video of Skype for iPad launched on Youtube

Skype app for iPad 2

Nobody is sure what happened really with this video as it was uploaded and then removed. Luckily for us, it seems that somebody downloaded the video and later shared it with the Youtube audience. If this is indeed a new version of Skype for iPad it really looks splendid as you can see for yourself in the video bellow. Video calls, Wi-Fi or 3G based calling, whole screen video, impressive graphic resolution, clean user interface and so on. Seems that this time they have made it fabulously, just as the iPad platform deserves. Who knows perhaps Microsoft with their recent purchase of Skype is pushing its boundaries in an effort to make a strong intrusion into Apple dominated world of iPad apps?

Apple slows down iPhone 4 assembly lines

According to rumors from well informed sources Apple has informed their hardware suppliers to slow down the production of iPhone 4 as the launch ot the new iPhone model should take place somewhere during autumn. At the same time the pace of production of iPad 2 stays the same so no new developments are expected in this area.

Since iPhone 4 is currently still in high demand this has nothing to do with the iPhone 4 sales levels, instead it is obvious that Apple is planing a new marketing campaign for its next flagship product. The new model should supposedly be the iPhone 5 and according to most analyst it should look similar to current iPhone models.

App Store trademark lawsuit: Apple Inc. v. Amazon.com Inc.

Apple's lawsuit

Cupertino, California based Apple has again taken offensive stance against it competitors, and they have taken the offensive to the court of law. In a latest barrage of lawsuits and counter lawsuits Apple has taken on Amazon for alleged trademark infringement charges. Steve Jobs legal team has asked for court order banning Amazon from using the words App Store while waiting for the results of the lawsuit.

Meanwhile Amazon has claimed that App Store is only a generic term and not suitable for granting exclusive rights. And even more there is no way that Apple could demonstrate, users are being confused by two similarly named services. The clear difference according to Amazon is that Apple sells only iOS apps in their store.
