iPad 3 rumors: display resolution
Apple is already working secretly on iPad 3 tablet devices and now we have fresh rumors on the iPad 3 display. According to this rumors iPad 3 could have a 264 PPI quality display. Previously, many analysts predicted that the next generation of iPad will have a 2048 x 1536 screen resolution, that is if Samsung and LG can provide enough displays for Apple. According to the same rumors it seems that both Samsung and LG have encountered bottlenecks as the number of screens needed by Apple is higher than what they currently can provide.
At the time being, best display resolution manufacturers can provide is 2048 x 1536 which means 264 PPI. This is twice PPI compared to the previous iPad 2 which has only 132 PPI. As exceedingly high consumer demand for Apple products as shown in great sales figures for iPhone 4S is growing even higher, Apple wants to provide large quantities of their products. As most of the tablet sales in US goes to Apple, Cupertino Company expects even higher sales for the new iPad 3 tablet. According to recent surveys, around 95% of tablet web traffic in United States goes to Apple’s iPad devices.
Alternatively manufacturers could offer to Apple 1600 x 1200 displays, but we think this could hardly be accepted by Apple. And even if Apple would accept such low resolution, most of the apps in the app store wouldn’t work very well on such displays. If Samsung, LG and Apple do not resolve manufacturing problems we could easily get another iPad genearation but showcasing older display technology, the same that is currently used iPad2. Perhaps Apple is pushing the things too far with the new iPad 3 display. But on the other side, who would choose to get a new tablet if its display is the same as on the older tablet?
