Apple to use curved screen for iPhone 6

iPhone curved display

While we still wait for exact news on iPhone 5 and perhaps iPad 3 which should be launched in the spring of 2012, there are already some far fetched rumors on iPhone 6. As reported by often cited Taiwanese based new portal Digi Times, Apple is in close contacts with their iPhone and iPad display manufacturers like Fuji Crystal. Lens Tech and other regarding this new technology.

According to this rumor, Apple wants to provide those companies with sophisticated glass polishing equipment of their own. Displays with curved glass are quite unusual choice for smartphones but there are already some precedents like Samsungs’s Nexus which has a kind of concave display. Such display fits users ergonomically much better during a regular voice calls. Another useful feature is that this curvature can protect the screen from scratches when the device is left lying on its display. Some other mayor manufacturers are also using curved concave displays like Dell for example with their Windows Phone. Another company specializing in damage resistant displays is Corning, which offers their own version of curved Gorilla Glass, but so far there are no rumors about Apple using Cornings technology with their products.
