iOS controlled ‘Spy Tank’

Here is another cool gadget which is among the very interesting ones, yet slightly useless at least in our opinion. This time it is a gadget made by Brookstone and named more or less appropriately: ‘Spy Tank’.

‘Spy Tank’ is controlled through an iOS app so you can drive the device with your iPhone or iPad. ‘Spy Tank’ will send you back a feed of audio and visual stream. One of the interesting things about this gadget is that it has even night vision capability which makes it even more useful for your potential “spy missions”. Your iPhone or iPad will connect to ‘Spy Tank’ through a Wi-fi connection which gives it a range of 60 meters (200 feets) in a open area or 30 meters (100 feets) if it moves behind obstacles or indoors. The rover is powered by a pack of 6 batteries, which probably won’t last too long.

There are different things a person can achieve with his iPhone or iPad, You could learn, talk, write, draw, listen, type, buy and sell things and apps and much more, but some people really have unique ideas. As unique as jumping from an airplane and then using an iPhone for booking a room in a hotel. Now that is an interesting idea, don’t you think? And after he has parachuted from the sky he has checked whether the reservation was really done, and as you will see in the Youtube video bellow the operation was successful. Please do not try this at home unless you are a professional skydiver!

iPhone helps locating crashed airplane in Chile

After a military airplane has crashed in Chile couple of days ago it was finally located, believe it or not with a help of an iPhone and the Find My iPhone app. Chilean military airplane CASA212 has being considered missing after it disappeared from military radars during the last weekend.

The location of the crash has been found after a relative of one of the crew members has tried to locate his relatives iPhone with Find my iPhone app. Find my iPhone is an iOS only app which helps you to locate your iPhone in case you have lost it or if it’s stolen. After the app was started it has pointed to the exact location of the crash, said the officer of Chilean air forces responsible for the search and rescue mission.

Chinese army launched an iPhone Jailbreak app!

Chinese army also known as PLA (People’s Liberation Army) which is according to statistics second most powerful army on the globe second only to USA armed forces. To increase their PR image they have just pushed out an iPhone app which represents Chinese armed forces and its intentions to the global public in a form of an iPhone app. Interesting as it comes when an officially communist army releases an high tech application like in these case, it is even more interesting that they have released this app outside of Apple’s app store. This means that only users which have jailbroken devices will be able to use this app!

Anti Malware app for iOS

Is the Apple world changing? Once upon a time it wasn’t possible at all to get a virus or some other kind of malware on your Apple device. But perhaps because of the fantastic growth of Apple devices during the last few years, things are slowly changing. Currently there is still no known software threat for iPhone iPod or iPad but this new app named VirusBarrier will scan all files you share in your networks. The main idea behind this malware scanning app is that the weakest link in our defences are mobile iOS devices which could be used as a vehicle for malware infections whenever we connect our devices with our work or home desktop computers. This is where VirusBarrier comes into play: it is created so it can detect and prevent malicious software from infecting our computers.

NPR app for iPad

NPR has updated its iPad app with some interesting new features and options. This app is basically a digital magazine, which reflects mostly the content aired on NPR including US and world news spiced with additions of music and fine arts.

This version of the app is improved especially if compared with the same app for iPhone which is focused mainly news only, as they have another app for iPhone which is for music only. With this app you will be able to listen to live streams of any NPR station and gain access to other content like Fresh Air, Car Talk and other. Interesting feature of this app for iPad is that the stream will play in the background so you can continue listening even if you decide to send an email or do something else on your iPad.

They like to promote themselves as one of the rare companies which launched bestsellers in four different categories in the App Store: Productivity , Social Networking, Business and Utilities. SHAPE services are well known in the smartphone world s they create apps for different devices including Blackberry and Android.

iPhone health apps: Skin scan

Apple’s iPhone is stubbornly breaking into different areas of life, and App Store sells more and more earlier impossible to have apps. This time here is another potentially great app. Scin Scan is made to help you protect your health from real risks. While it wont completely replace your dermatologists careful examinations it could improve and point to potential dangers.

How does this work? Simply: you take pictures of moles on your skin and the app will measure its size. When measured, apps algorithm will calculate the possibility for development of melanom. This health app was created by Victor Anastasiu and a team of developers. Beside iOS developers, Mr. Anastasiu also included in his team two mathematicians and a couple of dermatologists. Anastasiu and his team have gathered more than $70,000 in funding.

Demo video of Skype for iPad launched on Youtube

Nobody is sure what happened really with this video as it was uploaded and then removed. Luckily for us, it seems that somebody downloaded the video and later shared it with the Youtube audience. If this is indeed a new version of Skype for iPad it really looks splendid as you can see for yourself in the video bellow. Video calls, Wi-Fi or 3G based calling, whole screen video, impressive graphic resolution, clean user interface and so on. Seems that this time they have made it fabulously, just as the iPad platform deserves. Who knows perhaps Microsoft with their recent purchase of Skype is pushing its boundaries in an effort to make a strong intrusion into Apple dominated world of iPad apps?

Innovative iPhone apps: Roamler

We have seen first steps in potentially crowdsourcing small tasks through iPhone apps. One example could be the Field Agent iPhone app among others. But here is a new twist on this idea. A group of Dutch developers have added an interesting twist to this idea. What they did is that they connected users location to small tasks. Basically this means that some company could use individuals in more or less remote locations for variety of tasks.
