Timeline for Facebook on iPhone: awesome!
Latest Facebook upgrade, the so called ‘timeline’ will soon come to iPhone and it will look fabulous according to latest reports, which appeared after a press conference yesterday.
Timeline on a touch screen device looks much better than on a desktop computer. In fact, some people said it looks so great you wont want to use it on your desktop computer, instead you’ll want to use only your iPhone Facebook app. Timeline is created specifically for touch screen devices like iPhone and iPad.
Battery problem still not solved
Although latest iOS firmware 5 offered many new improvements and cool features, it seems that it also introduced a number of problems for users. In fact the same new powerful features could be the cause for fast iPhone battery draining. Whenever your iPhone connects to the iCloud it will need to locate your position and use the data connection. This didn’t happen so quickly with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on older iOS 4. In order to solve this problem Apple has pushed out the 5.0.1 upgrade. Unfortunately, it seems that the problem persist for many users despite upgrading their devices to the new firmware. Not suprisingly, many iPhone users are still complaining on Apple help forums about the battery drain still happening on their devices despite the 5.0.1 upgrade.
iOS 5.0.1 upgrade seeded
Apple has just released the next version of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch firmware which is now being upgraded to iOS 5.0.1. Major reason for this upgrade was the battery life issue reported by many users where iPhone’s were draining batteries very quickly, even if the devices were in stand by mode only. There were also other things Apple solved with this upgrade including some security risks, bug fixes, better voice recognition, re introduction of multi touch gestures for iPad and much more.
Here is the short list of most important features iOS 5.0.1 brings:
Adobe stops developing Flash for mobile devices
Adobe’s vice president Donny Winnokur confirmed many rumors when he stated that Adobe stops development of Flash for mobile platforms. He announced that Adobe’s efforts within the smartphone market will be from now on focused on enabling developers to implement Adobe AIR technology into their apps. Flash Player wont be upgraded any more to work with new mobile devices, OS and browsers. But current versions of Flash Player will still be supported with mayor updates and bug fixes for some time. Source code and licensing of Flash will be kept the same, meaning that Flash developers wont have any licensing related issues after this decision.
iPhone pocket projector
iPhone has already being used in so many different even strange situations and for so various purposes that it is even hard to remember all of them. Some of more interesting were using an iPhone as a microscope, or remote sensor, or flying drones with your iPhone or, well you know, anything else imaginable under the sun. Now here is another great option for your iPhone. You will be soon able to carry around your pocket sized projector in this special iPhone case. This will probably become a important option for those business folks always running around showing their sales numbers or whatever they need to present while on the run.
Siri voice assistant ported to iPhone 3GS
One of the best devices in the world today, if not the best handheld device today is certainly Apple’s latest iPhone model, the mighty iPhone 4S. This smartphone besides having a plethora other great features and capabilities uses something not available before on any other device or platform. Smart voice assistant Siri is perhaps the best upgrade Apple has offered ever on their devices. Because of this, many iOS users have been wondering whether it would be possible to use Siri on their older devices like iPhone 4 or even iPhone 3GS, which are fully compatible with iOS 5.0 as it is required for Siri to work. The biggest success in this line of hacking is being now revealed by famous developers Chpwn and Smith Troughton.
iOS security hole revealed
A serious security hole in Apple’s iOS fortress has just being discovered bu renowned security expert Charlie Miller. The vulnerability enables apps which are downloaded from the official App Store to download and run harmful code from any remote third party computer. This app which Charlie Miller uploaded successfully to App Store by circumventing Apple security policies and checks, behaves like any regular app displaying stock informations, but it was able to download code from distant computer and run selected commands therefore becoming able to steal user files without any permission.
Apple porting Siri voice assistant to iPhone 4?
We have heard recently some rumors and reports about Apple’s intentions to add Siri to iPhone 4. Since Apple is recently busilly working on iOS 5.0.1 to solve battery life issues they apparently also want to include in this upgrade Siri to become comaptible with iPhone 4. A source close to Cupertino Company revealed that Apple’s engineers are testing Siri in their other iPhone models. Model which will most probably receive Siri upgrade will be iPhone 4 which has enough hardware capacities for supporting Siri. But we wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that Apple is also testing other iPhone models. Could this mean that Apple is working on another iOS upgrade?
Is Apple’s Siri assistant a Google killer?
Former CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt has said in a public hearing that Siri represents a great development in search and that Google’s core business of internet search could be significantly threatened by Apple’s Siri technology. While such a statement could be dismissed as a overreaction, it is certain that Siri represents something completely new on the market. But nonetheless such a bold statement is questionable especially since Schmidt said it in front of a US Senat commission, probably to decrease the incredible significance and impact Google has over the Internet. Siri indeed could hurt Google’s business as it offers a voice assistance thus circumventing the need for visiting Google’s website with served adds which yield most of the profits for Google.
