A new iOS shooter: Shadowgun

shadowgun iPhone

While Shadowgun isn’t a particularly original game it sure offers a lot of fun to iPhone and iPad gamers which are inclined to this genre. Developers of this game have already proven themselves within this genre with a game called Samurai 2: The Vengence. Shadowgun meets exceedingly high criteria at least when it comes to high quality graphic design and is another proof of high quality hardware found on Apple’s iOS devices. The game play reminds strongly on another great shooter: “Gears of War” but improves it and embeds it fabulously into considerably smaller screen environment of iPhone and iPad.

When you start the game your character will be a mercenary named John Slade whose mission is to save a kidnapped mad scientist. The only help you’ll have is coming from your ship AI. We have to repeat again, you wont find any new gaming ideas in Shadowgun, as it is based on elements borrowed from many other games we’ve seen long time ago. However it can be said that this is the first game which introduces console quality gaming into the iOS world.

Game characters look realistically, with high level of details and sharpness, and the interesting background only increases the coolness factor of the game. Game controls are quite intuitive and are based on 2 stick mode. Swiping moves on the left side of the screen will move your character, while the right hand swipes will enable you to control the camera view. When to need to run for cover you’ll just need to jump behind the first available obstacle. To jump over it and attack your enemies, just tap forward. If you need to leave the cover simply tap back.

Enemy mutant fighters will attack you fiercely, but are guided with a somewhat mechanical and simplistic AI. So in conclusion, Shadowgun is a new standard for shooting games for iPhone and iPad, but its certainly not the best game ever. It is more a novelty as it introduces a new kind of games to iOS but it has also a certain level of Déjà vu, as the game has nothing new to offer to a experienced and demanding player. Still, if you decide to get it you will enjoy many more or less interesting mutant fighting combat missions.
