iPhone modifications and warranty issues
Apple wouldn’t be what it is if it didn’t couple some of the best and some of the worst.
While its hardware, software, product design and overall speaking IT philosophy is groundbreaking it is often combined with the worst kind of command & control worldview. While being much more innovative than the crew from Microsoft, it is also more focused on controlling their business ecosystem.
The worst aspect of this eagerness to control is how the software and the apps are controlled.
Steve Jobs and the rest of the top management at Apple voiced their concerns, by publicly speaking about jailbreaking and unlocking programs causing irreparable damages to iPhone operative system. Because of this users who are modding their devices are breaking the end user agreement (EULA) and are loosing their warranty.
While some kind of damage could occur (rarely), it is almost impossible to completely damage the iOS by doing a well informed and organized jailbreak and unlock. Secondly, almost any “damage” is quite reversible.
If you for any reason have to visit your local Genius Bar you will have to remove the jailbreak and the unlock before the visit. This is really easy to do, as all you have to do is to restore your iphone and there you are, your iPhone is “virginized”. Now you only have to remove any trace of Cydia apps and nobody will be able to detect that you have ever unlocked your iPhone. And your warranty is still active, meaning that you’ll be able to repair that home button or broken screen or whatever else bothers you.
So instead of listening to greedy corporate CEO’s please do your research and find a good unlocking advice and solution and modify your iPhone as much as it suits you.
After all its your iPhone, isn’t it?
