iOS 5: backup your device before the upgrade!

backup your iPhone before upgrading iOS

Nobody knows for sure will Apple launch the iOS 5 at the release show in their Cupertino, California campus. But if they do so and you are among those early adopters, you should do well if you decide to backup your iOS device. Backing up your data is always a smart move whenever you do some mayor change on your device, no matter what the change is about. This is just in case something goes wrong and you need to restore your device completely. If you have your backup safe and ready then there is no need to worry at all. If not, well, your data can disappear into the big blue of data heavens.

iOS 5 will probably introduce some mayor changes into the way iOS works. For example, there should be new system of wireless syncing that could cause serious troubles. When you install iOS 5 on your iPhone or iPad, it will enable Wi-fi syncing with iTunes and with Apple’s iCloud system. One of the new services will also be the iTunes Match which will be able to match your complete music library with cloud stored copies of songs, thus enabling easy music sharing on your iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. This should work perfectly but since the service is not tested in real world you could end with all your music files deleted.

Please note: we do not expect such things to happen, and you certainly must not panic, but cloud computing is highly developed and therefore sensitive technology and you should take all precaution measures if you are serious about your data safety, before taking large steps such as upgrading to a completely new version of iOS.
