Apple to unveil Assistant within iOS 5?

Rumors about the big release event for Apple’s new iPhone have never been so interesting and at the same time contradicting as we all expect to see what exactly will Apple release this time. Most users expect to see a new iPhone model, but could it be that a new iPhone model could be only a small issue if compared with something else Apple wants to show us? Apparently a new voice control system should be a part of iOS 5. This new feature, named by some Apple fans as Assistant could introduce a whole new level to what Apple and iPhone is about. It has the potential of changing the way we interact with our iOS devices. First there was a multitouch screen and now there is Assistant, a voice interaction system which could change the world of computing as much as touchscreens did.

Google has already made some advances in this field especially with their voice search capabilities, but Assistance is much more than a simple voice recognition technology. The whole concept was described long time ago in a book by a former Apple CEO John Scully, in his book “Odyssey”. The concept he wrote about was “Knowledge Navigator” and describes how will touch screens and voice navigation change the way we interact with our computers.

Recently Apple has acquired Siri which became famous with their innovative voice search software. With Siri it is enough to ask for a movie in conversational manner and it will point you to the nearest cinema showing airing the movie you wanted to see. Integrating Siri’s technology deeply into iOS could be a revolutionary concept. What if developers could have aces to this potential? It could mena that a whole new level of innovative apps could take the stage and lead Apple to unprecedented heights. This could be easily the tool which could definitely differentiate iOS and put it ahead of the cheap Android device avalanche we are witnessing these days.

You can see bellow the icon of which could well mean that Assistance will be an important part of iOS 5. Rumors about Apple’s voice recognition technology have appeared often, and it is really a concept which is well known, but so far without being realised in real life. Could this be the time when “everything changes, again” as Steve Jobs would say?

And what about the banner on Apple’s Cupertino campus which states: “Let’s Talk iPhone” , could this indicate that we will see Assistant on our iPhones?
