FaceTime copy: Google introduces video chat for Android devices

Facetime clone for Android

Google is again trying to counter Apple. This time Google tries to compete with Apple by creating a video chat app which is clearly similar to Apple’s popular Facetime app. This could be a start of awhole new wave of improvements for Google Android supported devices. We are sure that Apple wont be very happy about this but they wont be able to use a law suit against Google in this case as video chat isn’t something protected by patent laws.

Last week Google introduced a new service, Google Talk for Android smartphones. To initiate call it is enough to tap on the chat option on your friends list. When the video call starts you can simultaneously use text messaging as the text will be visible on the screen bellow the video. As Android now supports multi tasking you can also check on other things while having a video conversation. If yo decide to do so, the video will pause but the video will stay active and you will be able to use other apps.

So this means that Android users can now enjoy in high quality multi functional video calls on their phones and tablets. The app will work both on 3G network and through Wi-Fi connection.

The app will be available to the users with Nexus S devices at the moment. The video chat will become available for other users after the upcoming 2.3.4 firmware upgrade. You can see more about this video chat feature in the youtube video bellow.
