Byword for Mac OS X
Text editing software or apps as we usually call them in the Apple world are something almost as old as computing. A good text editor is essential for anyone working on his computer or rather tablet these days. There are different flavors of text editors available on different platforms, but for today’s users habits and expectations demand sheer efficiency as something that is most wanted. In the same spirit of radical efficiency and simplicity comes a new text writing app named Byword.
Byword is an OS X app featuring only bare necessities, in a spirit that reminds us on Twitter in the social networking world. Twitters strategy and winning combination is that less is more. In the same way Byword tries to keep you focused by limiting you to only bare bone functions needed for your writing endeavors. When writing in a smaller window it gives you limited but pleasing writing experience, but it becomes irresistibly useful when using it in a full screen mode. All distractions are gone from your screen and you will see only one column of you text with some nicely done fonts. Different tools are still available at the bottom of the display. All usual tools and options like word count and file type options are visible while some other options deemed not important like text search function are hidden. As in any other text editor worth of that name, you can easily edit the look of your document: font size, background colors and so on.
This app also features something called focus mode which helps you to focus on a part of the text while keeping the rest out of your view. You can focus on only a couple of lines or up to one whole paragraph of text. In this way you can focus working only on essential or troublesome parts of your work instead of jumping to different parts of the document.
If you use your computer for writing and demand more from yourself, you could do yourself a favour and get Byword from Apple’s Mac App Store for $9.99.
