iPhone battery life tips and tricks

iPhone has slowly but surely transformed itself and its primary function as a mobile handset into ubiquitous handheld computing device used for almost any task imaginable, from business, science research, writing to using it as a medical device.

With this incredible array of uses, it simply has to be a energy hog, so battery life has become an important issue for iPhone users.

While iPhone 4 has an improved battery life when compared to older iPhone models (iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) it can still be easily drained out in a single day if used heavily. If you have ever encounter such a problem here are some tips which should be helpful to you.

Screen brightness: If you dim the screen lightness bellow half this will significantly conserve your battery charge. In addition many users think this is also better for your eyes. You can change the screen brightness if you tap Settings and then go to Brightness.

Turn of your Wi-Fi: if you don’t need to use Wi-fi every moment you can turn it of and on as you need, You can also turn of the Wi-fi scanning as you will most probably use Wi-fi connection only in your home or office.

Turn of the 3G connection: In many cases you will get only Edge connection and so if your area has no 3G coverage you should simply disable the 3G on your iPhone. If your iPhone automatically scans for the 3G connection it will needlessly drain your battery.

Shorten the auto lock timing on your iPhone: You can change this if you go to Settings > General > Auto lock

Turn of the Push option: Push means that your emails are downloaded as soon as you receive them. This means that your iPhone is often connecting and checking your emails instead of you doing it manually once or twice a day. This will also conserve your battery and it is recommended that you disable Push if it is not necessary for you.

Disable Location Services: There are some apps which must use location services. This will use energy and if those apps are not vital to you you should consider disabling Location Services.

Bluetooth: Bluetoth is something that most of users will use only occasionally so no need for it to use your energy. Disable it and enable it manually only when needed. To disable it go to Settings, tap General, tap bluetooth, choose Off.

Turn of the music equaliser: The goal is to conserve your energy as much as possible so as this service is not vital to the functioning of your iPhone, consider disabling it

Battery charge cycles: Drain your battery completely and then recharge it fully at least once a month. This cycle will improve your overall battery lifetime.
