Tip: Old iPod instead of Apple TV – how to stream video on standard defination TVs
It’s great to own an apple TV since you can easily stream your favorite content toward your HDMI equipped High Definition (HD) TV. But what happens if your TV belongs to the old family - TVs with composite RCA video & audio plugs? Is it possible to create something simple with some old stuff that we already have?
Of course it is
AND I am not talking here about expensive equipment and components for HDMI converters which are to expensive
for this purpose you will need an iphone or even better an OLD ipod.
This is what we need:
1. iPod touch - you can use an old one
2. set of composite cable from Apple check here ($39)
3. Air video app here ($2.99)
An old iPod is recommended because you have to leave it connected beside your old CRT TV, you could use your iphone or ipad as well but I guess those babies are useful for plenty of other amazing things ![]()
1. iPod touch should be set as normal
2. take these component cables from Apple and plug your ipod to the dock connector on them
3. keep your battery on your ipod running
if you don’t want to worry about charging plug the USB out into an AC adapter
4. now install Air Video to your Mac or Win PC
5. lunch application (Air Video)
6. From preferences share libraries that contain media
7. Now launch Air Video on your old iPod
8. You must Add your Mac or Windows PC as a server
9. Navigate to your watch list
10. Hit play or play with live transcode…enjoy!
